Bati©: The Bati© Health District has announced plans to vaccinate more than 48,665 children aged 9 months to 14 years against typhoid fever. The vaccination campaign is scheduled to take place from January 23 to 29, 2025, throughout the province.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Health District organized an advocacy and awareness meeting on Friday to promote the upcoming vaccination campaign. The meeting, held at the High Commission of Noumbiel, brought together opinion leaders from various sectors, including administrative authorities, civil society, religious communities, associations, and the media. The session was led by District Chief Medical Officer Roland Konkonbo, Secretary General of the Province Bepampo Woba, and High Commissioner Drissa Hema. The primary aim was to inform and engage these leaders to ensure successful vaccination coverage.
During the meeting, a presenter, Mr. Bahan, described typhoid fever as a ‘dirty hands disease’ that can cause serious complications but is preventable with curative treatment. He elaborated on the campaign’s background, objectives, target population, and strategies to meet the goals. The vaccination effort will employ both fixed and advanced strategies, deploying teams to health facilities, schools, markets, places of worship, stations, border crossing points, and areas with spontaneous settlements.
District Chief Medical Officer Roland Konkombo urged opinion leaders to embrace the initiative and help raise awareness among the target audience, which includes children aged 9 months to 14 years. He emphasized the importance of achieving high vaccination coverage to meet the campaign’s objectives.
High Commissioner Drissa Hema reinforced this call, stating, “You are all invited, because you are essential relays to raise awareness and transmit information. The desired objective will only be achieved if you fully play your role.”
