Bobo-Dioulasso: The Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism announced Monday the launch of the 3rd edition of ‘Burkinabe Heritage Month,’ set to begin on April 17, 2025, in Bobo-Dioulasso. The initiative aims to strengthen the Burkinabe people’s connection to their history.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Moctar Sanfo, Director General of Culture and Arts, emphasized the event’s purpose to foster teaching, discovery, and cultural enrichment. The month-long celebration, from April 18 to May 18, 2025, will focus on the theme: ‘Cultural Heritage and Economic Development.’
Mr. Sanfo highlighted the theme’s focus on exploring cultural heritage’s role in regional economic development and community well-being. Building on the success of past editions in Ouagadougou, this year’s event aims to deepen the sense of ownership among Burkinabe people.
The Director General outlined various activities planned for the month, including tour circuits, heritage and culture commemorations, and the inaugur
ation of ambassadors. Notably, the third edition introduces several innovations to enhance engagement.
One of the key innovations is a shooting challenge game, which encourages participants to capture heritage sites or visuals that align with the initiative’s goals. Another addition is the celebration of African World Heritage Day, established by UNESCO in 2015.
The event will also feature a day dedicated to customs and traditions, promoting secularism and involving administrative oversight to ensure a respectful celebration. The Council of Ministers previously designated April 18 to May 18 as “Burkinabe Heritage Month.”
The 2025 edition will be held under the patronage of the President of Faso, Head of State.
