Ouagadougou: The permanent secretary of the National Committee for the Fight against Drugs (CNLD), Noel Kabor©, announced on Thursday that Burkina Faso seized 133 tons of drugs and brought 522 individuals before the public prosecutor for drug-related offenses in 2024.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the announcement was made during the 20th general assembly of the CNLD, presided over by the Minister of Security, Mahamoudou Sana. Kabor© highlighted the extensive impact of drug prevention measures, noting that 89,000 people from various demographics were reached. Additionally, 2,599 individuals received care, with 186 successfully reintegrated after treatment.

Kabor© explained that the national strategy to combat drugs serves as a framework to coordinate anti-drug efforts. For 2025, this strategy is reinforced by four key axes: enhancing prevention, improving medical-psycho-social care and social reintegration, strengthening the withdrawal of supply and combating demand, and bolstering governance.

Security Minister Mahamoudou Sana emphasized the significance of this 20th General Assembly, which marks the initiation of the 2025-2029 action plan of the national strategy. This plan involves the examination and adoption of its first annual work plan. Sana also pointed out the link between terrorism and drugs, asserting that combating drugs indirectly aids in the fight against terrorism in Burkina Faso.
