Nahouri: Cross-border transhumance stakeholders are working together to strengthen their cooperation. The High Commissioner of the province of Nahouri, Si© Aristide Mohamed Kam, chaired a cross-border consultation meeting in P´, focusing on transhumance cooperation between the Upper East and Upper West regions of Ghana and the provinces of Nahouri and Sissili in Burkina.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this meeting is part of the DINADANE project’s efforts for the consensual management of shared natural resources in these border areas. The initiative aims to reinforce collaboration among transhumance stakeholders to prevent and address tensions related to cross-border transhumance in the project’s target regions.
During the meeting, participants from both Ghana and Burkina Faso engaged in presentations discussing agro-pastoral dynamics, transhumance legislation, and associated challenges. These sessions were well-received, facilitating the establishment of a foundation for peaceful collaboration in the area.
Project coordinator Issaka Kabor© and project cohesion manager Beore Somda noted the meeting’s benefits, emphasizing the valuable exchanges and commitment to harmonious coexistence among the communities of both countries. High Commissioner Si© Aristide Mohamed Kam commended the brotherly spirit of the discussions, highlighting the potential of transhumance as a tool for social cohesion through dialogue and mutual commitment.
The project, funded by the PATRIP foundation, is executed by a consortium comprising HELP, RECOPW, the NUNUNA federation in Burkina, and the NGO Clip in Ghana.
