Nahouri: The Secretary General of the province of Nahouri, Emile Hien, launched this Friday, April 11, 2025 in P´, the first edition of the cup of the director of the locality’s remand and correction center, under the theme: “Sport, a factor of resilience and solidarity for successful reintegration.”
According to Burkina Information Agency, this event marks a significant step towards fostering community spirit and resilience. For two weeks, 8 teams from the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), and 6 civilian teams will compete to win the trophy of this first edition of the P´ remand center director’s cup.
The promoter and director of the prison, Absetou Ouattara, emphasized that this competition is a call for hope and action in a Burkina Faso facing numerous challenges. Ms. Ouattara expressed her intention to use sport as a means to cultivate resilience, strengthen social ties, and promote solidarity, even within the prison walls.
“This tournament, which brings together 14 teams from diverse backgrounds, symbolizes our desire to open the prison doors to society, to break down prejudices, and to say loud and clear that detention should not be an end in itself,” she stated. She highlighted the importance of viewing the inmates beyond their incarceration, advocating for overcoming stigmatization and recognizing that every individual deserves a second chance.
The opening match saw the team from sector No. 6 tying the game with AS Justice, with both teams scoring 1 goal each. The final match is slated for April 26, 2025, at the penitentiary center’s grounds.
The P´ remand and correctional facility, which began operations in November 2024, aims to integrate initiatives such as this cup to enhance community bonds and support the reintegration of inmates.
