Gourma: The Regional Director in charge of Agriculture for the East, Bassirou Mand©, initiated the free and subsidized ploughing activities for the 2025-2026 agricultural campaign in Untaand©ni, Diapangou. This initiative, supported by the Burkinabe State, targets an increase in agricultural production.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative is part of a broader vision for achieving total sovereignty through food self-sufficiency. The agriculture and animal resources sector has been receiving substantial support as part of the agro-forestry and pastoral offensive, providing producers in the Eastern region with free and subsidized ploughing.
The regional director, Bassirou Mand©, emphasized that the Burkinabe state aims to achieve food self-sufficiency through this support. The campaign’s target includes ploughing 750 hectares, with 480 hectares designated as rough land using 19 tractors. To benefit from subsidized ploughing, producers are required to pay 10,000 CFA francs per hectare. Additionally, ploughing the newly developed lowlands for rice production is offered free of charge.
Palamanga Lucien Tiamogo, head of the Diapangou Agricultural Technical Support Zone, noted that Untaand©ni is benefiting from this offensive, with ten hectares of lowland areas developed for rice production. The beneficiaries, including 60% women, internally displaced persons, and young people, were identified by a dedicated committee.
Adjima Idani, president of the Untaand©ni rice production lowland, expressed appreciation for the State’s support, recalling last year’s free ploughing of five hectares which yielded 50 100kg bags of rice. Possibo Thiombiano also thanked the authorities, highlighting the benefits of the initiative for women and the community, contributing to both food security and animal fodder production.
