Nahouri: The Digoulifanga association “Let’s remember the past” of Songo 2, located approximately ten kilometers southeast of P´, concluded the third edition of the Toumouna Gow Tchandia cultural festival on May 11, 2025. This festival aims to strengthen the bonds between communities through cultural and sporting events.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the festival, organized by the Digoulifanga association, featured traditional djongo and warrior dances, archery, a cultural night, joking relationships, and a cycling race as the main events of the 48-hour celebration. The High Commissioner of Nahouri province, Si© Aristide Mohamed Kam, presided over the event, which was sponsored by Naaba Kiiba of Diguila, a commune in Sourgoubila.
Mahamoudou Adiawourabou, president of the organizing committee, stated that the Toumouna Gow Tchandia cultural festival serves as a platform for transmitting cultural values from one generation to the next. He emphasized the festival’s role in strengthening community ties and encouraging young people to engage with their cultural heritage as a means of fostering lasting peace and social cohesion.
Naaba Kiiba of Diguila de Sourgoubila, the festival’s patron, praised the organizers for their efforts to promote the region’s rich cultural heritage. He highlighted the importance of traditional activities such as djongo and warrior dances, joking relationships, tales and legends, traditional wrestling, and archery in reviving the nation’s cultural identity. He described cultural identity as a vital force for rebuilding peace, enhancing coexistence, and supporting the local economy.
Additionally, Naaba Kiiba underscored the significance of the “consume Burkinab¨” slogan, which extends beyond food and crafts to encompass culture, know-how, and intangible heritage. He stated that supporting such initiatives is a choice for hope, authenticity, and sustainable development.
The High Commissioner of Nahouri Province commended the organizers for their initiative, noting that the musical expressions, enthusiasm, and participation of the local population in the activities demonstrate a deep love for their culture. The festival also included a cycling race and an archery competition, further enriching the celebration.
Before the festivities commenced, traditional authorities invoked their ancestors to protect the transitional authorities and the forces engaged in reclaiming the national territory. A significant Ghanaian delegation, led by the chief of Navrongo, attended the event to support the initiative and showcase the friendship between communities on both sides of the border.
