Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Quality (ABNORM) organized a significant operation to control the measuring instruments used by health facilities from October 21 to October 25, 2024, at the Directorate of Infrastructure, Equipment and Maintenance (DIEM) of the Ministry of Health. This initiative was part of the national days of patriotic commitment and citizen participation, focusing on ensuring the reliability of medical tools that are crucial for patient care.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this operation was recommended during the first extraordinary session of the ABNORM Board of Directors held in Ziniaré from October 7 to 10, 2024. The campaign aimed at calibrating measuring devices used in health centers free of charge to ensure their accuracy and effectiveness. Accurate measurements are vital in medical diagnostics, as they significantly influence the quality of care provided to patients. Unreliable instruments can lead to ineffective treatments or worsen
patients’ conditions.
The calibration operation targeted personal scales, mechanical blood pressure monitors, thermometers, and micropipettes. Over the five-day operation, technicians received 237 measuring instruments, including 89 personal scales, 22 mechanical blood pressure monitors, 106 thermometers, and 20 micropipettes. The response from various health structures exceeded expectations, highlighting the critical need for regular calibration of biomedical equipment to ensure accurate diagnostics and appropriate patient care.
