Africa: Malawi Names Squad for Swaziland Game

Malawi interim coach, Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan has named a provisional 27-member squad for the Group L ultimate fixture against Swaziland on Sunday, 4 September 2016 in Blantyre.

"I have picked a squad that can win me that game. We are out of contention but there is a ranking and pride at stake," said the Burundi-born Ramadhan, a former Assistant Coach of South African side, Black Leopards.

The Flames have amassed just two points from their previous five games, whereas second-placed Swaziland, on eight points is gunning for a best runner-up ticket, with leaders Zimbabwe already Gabon bound.

The squad include recalled South Africa- based duo Robert Ng'ambi of Platinum Stars and Micium Mhone of Jomo Cosmos, just as midfielder Chimango Kayira of Mozambican side Costa do Sol.

Silver Strikers defender Lucky Matala, Steve Chagoma of Blue Eagles, striker Gastin Simkonda from Moyale Barracks and Red Lions' holding midfielder Chikoti Chirwa are also back in the team.

However, Ramadhan has dropped the current most capped player, Joseph Kamwendo, who plies his trade with Liga Desportivo de Maputo of Mozambique as well as Nyasa Big Bullets forward Muhamad Sulumba and Richard Mbulu, joint top scorer in the Malawian top flight.

The newcomers in the squad include midfielder Thuso Paipi, striker Matthew Sibale (both from Silver Strikers), Blue Eagles midfielder Gilbert Chirwa and striker Maxwell Salambula.
