Major General Hamel to partake in 13th meeting of African Police Chiefs in Addis Ababa

ALGIERS, The Algerian police chief, Major-General Abdelghani Hamel, who is also head of the African Mechanism for Police Co-operation (Afripol) is attending the 13th special meeting of African Police Chiefs and the 10th meeting of the Afripol ad hoc technical committee on security taking place in Addis Ababa on Monday and Tuesday.

A statement from the General Directorate of the Algerian National Police (DGSN) here said the two meetings, being held at the headquarters of the African Union (AU) Commission in the Ethiopian capital, were being attended by African police chiefs, AU experts and representatives of sub-regional, regional and international police organizations.

During his participation in the two meetings, Hamel will broach the prospects of consolidating the bases of co-operation among African security forces in the fight against crime in all its forms as part of the Afripol agenda.

The participants will also discuss a series of important issues relating to security in African societies, ways to strengthen the co-operation and the exchanges of experiences among African countries and regional and international security organizations to face modern security challenges and stakes, added the statement.
