The pan-African media channel Africanews has bagged its first international recognition, receiving an award for having staged the Best Launch of a media organization in the year 2016.
The accolade was given during the 18th edition of the Grand Prix Media awards run by the French magazine, CB News.
Africanews was represented at the Paris event by the Chief Executive Officer of Africanews and Euronews, Michael Peters; its editor-in-chief, Francois Chignac, and Nathalie Wakam, a deputy editor-in-chief.
The Grand Media Award is a yearly award scheme that rewards major players in the communication industry.
Seventeen award categories are given out to different outlets in areas of media innovation, editorial quality, marketing, sales or digital and it is adjudged by a panel of experts - spanning media owners, advertisers and media personalities.
After launching its digital platform in January 2016, Africanews, sent out its first LIVE pictures on April 20 from its studios in Pointe-Noire, Congo - Brazzaville.
Since then, the channel boasts a fine combination of English and French content and continues to serve its African and global audience quality information by way of news, business, sports, culture and technology news.
Additionally, its flagship program, the Morning Call, continues to serve Africa a strong cocktail of news with perspectives from experts from around the continent. The channel plans to roll out more programs in the course of the year.
