Rachuonyo South: Rachuonyo South Deputy County Commissioner Denis Kieti has given assurances to the Komabaka Primary School community that the government will take action against the robbers who murdered the school watchman and stole electronic devices. In response to this tragic incident, Kieti has called on communities near schools to maintain vigilance against theft, particularly as the government distributes electronic gadgets for digital literacy.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kieti’s message was delivered by Assistant County Commissioner Waweru Karanja during a prayer gathering at Kombaka SDA Primary School, held in memory of the school guard who was killed on Monday night. The ACC expressed the DCC’s condolences, emphasizing the grave nature of the crime. The 58-year-old guard, Pius Oyoo Ogwel, was murdered just three days into his employment, and the school’s projector and printer were stolen during the robbery.
Community members with knowledge about the perpetrators are encouraged to report any information confidentially, with assurances that the government will handle the criminals within the legal framework. The DCC also urged teachers and students to remain resilient, noting that support will be provided to help them cope with the trauma.
Sub County Director of Education Julius Opondo highlighted the Ministry of Education’s commitment to ensuring continuity in learning, especially with the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). He mentioned the recent provision of digital learning tools to schools, expressing disappointment over the theft. Opondo called for unity and vigilance within the community to prevent future thefts of educational equipment.
He also noted ongoing government efforts to construct classrooms for junior secondary education in all 38 primary schools in Rachuonyo South Sub County, including Kombaka Primary. Opondo emphasized that school facilities and equipment are community assets meant for children’s education, urging their protection.
Joseph Ogutu, the head teacher of Komabaka Primary School, recounted the decision to hire a security guard to enhance school safety, acknowledging the tragic outcome of the guard’s murder. He lamented the loss of both the guard and the critical educational equipment. Ogutu urged the community to remain proactive in safeguarding the school, emphasizing its role in community development by providing education to future generations.
