Bobo-Dioulasso: The municipal authorities of Bobo-Dioulasso carried out an eviction operation on Tuesday, June 17, on a site belonging to the army’s land heritage, located in Kiri, a village attached to the 2nd district. Several homes were demolished there for reasons of security and respect for the public domain.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the special delegation for district 2, Siegfried Sigaro Sanou, stated that this operation follows several stages of awareness-raising, questioning, and formal notices sent to the occupants. “This is a strategic military area currently under illegal occupation. During the awareness-raising phase, some people voluntarily left the area. Those who remained despite warnings were affected by today’s operation,” he said.
Municipal equipment was deployed in the early hours of the morning to demolish the affected homes. The operation took place under the supervision of security forces. Some of those evicted claim to have acquired the land through illegal transactions. In this regard, Mr. Sanou urged the population to contact the relevant authorities before purchasing any plot.
“It is imperative to inquire with town halls, tax departments and urban planning authorities to avoid land disputes,” he advised. The operation aims to secure the military area and prevent any incident related to unauthorized occupation.
