KINGDOM OF ESWATINI SAYS NAME CHANGE FROM SWAZILAND NOT TO IMPACT TOURISM

DURBAN-- The Tourism Authority of the Kingdom of eSwatini, formerly Swaziland, is confident that the announcement by King Mswati III to change the country's name will not have an impact on the kingdom's tourism product.

The king announced the name change during the celebration of the country's independence and his 50th birthday earlier this month.

The landlocked kingdom, which is bordered by South Africa and Mozambique, is among countries participating in the 2018 Africa's Travel Indaba taking place in Durban this week.

The Marketing Manager of the eSwatini Tourism Authority, Bongani Dlamini, said Thursday that the country's name change had in fact worked to their advantage.

The spotlight was on Swaziland. Everybody is aware of the new name and the only thing that people wanted to verify was whether or not we have started using the name." he said.

"Incidentally, we have, because once his Majesty made the pronouncement we all have to run with it. So, there's a lot of excitement around the meaning of the name and what it means as well so we are happy.

The new name of the kingdom means "place of the Swazi".
