Koudougou: a public conference in prelude to the Day of Customs and Traditions was held at Norbert Zongo University to foster understanding among various religious denominations. The event aimed to provide a shared comprehension of the customs and traditions celebrated on this significant day.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference was centered around the theme “Customs and Traditions Day: celebrating culture and consolidating the secularism of the State.” It was presided over by interim governor Adama Jean Yves B©r©, who set the tone with an adage emphasizing the importance of understanding one’s origins to navigate the future.
The conference featured two key presentations. Dr. Moumouni Zoungrana from Joseph Ki-Zerbo University explored the history and significance of the JCT, advocating for the celebration of ancestor worship. He highlighted that honoring traditional religions promotes fundamental values like the sacredness of life, social justice, tolerance, and forgiveness, which are vital for social cohesion both within and between communities.
Dr. Noaga Birba from Norbert Zongo University provided insights into the cultural heritage of the Centre-West region. He presented a historical perspective and discussed the significance of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, offering strategies for its preservation and promotion.
The event encouraged active participation, allowing attendees to contribute and pose questions. This interaction fostered a collective awareness that transcended religious differences, promoting peace as essential for human coexistence.
The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, facilitated this initiative. It was part of a nationwide effort with similar conferences occurring in Banfora, Fada N’gourma, Kaya, Ouagadougou, and Ouahigouya.
