Media: workshop for sharing experiences in monitoring media and social networks in Burkina Faso
The Minister of State, Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo chaired the opening ceremony of the workshop for sharing experiences in monitoring media and social networks this Tuesday, October 1, 2024 in Ouagadougou.
Initiated and implemented by Educommunik as part of the project “Media and information education for active public engagement of young people in democratic governance in Burkina Faso”, this capacity-building workshop, which is being held from October 1 to 4 in Ouagadougou, is part of the vision of the Government, which has made the regulation of digital social networks a priority.
The holding of this workshop, which brings together around thirty actors involved in the field of media and social network monitoring, comes at just the right time according to Minister of State Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, especially in a context where “Burkinabe citizens take pleasure
in using digital social networks as vectors of disinformation, hate speech, conspiracy theories and other content potentially detrimental to national unity and cohesion.”
Following the Head of Department in charge of Communication, the Director of the Office of the President of the Higher Council of Communication (CSC), Fousséni Kindo, finds that “this situation was a concern for the authorities who instructed the CSC to monitor social networks in order to better supervise them”. To do this, he hopes that at the end of this workshop to popularize monitoring experiences, we can have aggregates that will gradually contribute to ensuring that young people in our cities and countryside have access to healthy information, get information from the right source, diversify their sources of information, be wary of rumors and avoid being peddlers.
As for the Executive Secretary of Educommunik, Cyril Guel, he hopes that “the administrative authorities will continue to teach the standards of the field so that together,
“governors and governed, hand in hand, we demonstrate mutual understanding so that our common action, our common efforts, are not in vain in the construction and preservation of our country from the dangers that threaten it.”
