Multichoice in Sh7.5m Boost for Kenya Open

MultiChoice Kenya is the latest to join the list of corporate sponsors for this year's edition of the Barclays Kenya Open golf championship whose first round tees off on Thursday at the Karen Country Club.

MultiChoice, through DStv and SuperSport, announced a Sh7.5 million sponsorship package for the tournament at Karen Country Club on Tuesday.

MultiChoice Kenya Corporate Communications Manager Philip Wahome and SuperSport General Manager for East Africa Auka Gecheo said out of the sponsorship, more than Sh3 million will go towards broadcast rights and production while the remaining Sh4.5 million will cover administrative costs incurred by organisers of the week-long event, including setting up the first DStv Premium Golf Village at the venue.

Wahome said: "We have a long-term commitment to the Kenyan market through investment in local content and talent. This partnership with the Kenya Open Golf Limited is an indication of our pursuit to support various sports in the country."

"We have invested in world-class facilities to support production of world-class content for our viewers. We have also taken up the golf village this year where we will showcase the mix of premium content available on our premium bouquet through interactive golfing activities and games."

GLOBAL AUDIENCE

KOGL Publicity and Sponsorship Director, Kathleen Kihanya thanked MultiChoice for offering to broadcast of the tournament around the continent. She said the six-year partnership has helped to showcase the tournament to a global audience.

Gecheo said: "It is inspiring to note that we have broadcast the KOGL in the last six years. We're encouraged to be a part of the development of Golf and other sports in the country."
