Prime Minister Questions Relevance of December 11 as National Holiday.

Ouagadougou: This Tuesday’s publications focus on the closing of the Ouagadougou International Tourism and Hospitality Fair (SITHO) and the Prime Minister’s analysis of the national holiday of December 11. L’Observateur Paalga, the oldest private daily newspaper in Burkina Faso, headlines “National holiday: PM questions the relevance of December 11th.” The publication explains that August 5, which falls in the middle of the rainy season, makes it difficult to organize large-scale festivities, prompting the relocation of the celebrations to December 11.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the state daily Sidwaya featured on its front page the headline “National holiday: the choice of December 11 deciphered by the Prime Minister.” The newspaper notes that December 11 does not signify a rupture for a new beginning but symbolizes an evolution within the historical framework determined by the colonizer. The daily emphasizes that this date, commemorating the independence of Burkina Faso, is seen by the author
ities as marking a significant milestone in the country’s history.

Le Pays, a private daily, remarked on the importance of individuals integrating themselves into the nation’s history, which is perceived as progressing positively. Under another section, Sidwaya highlights the success of SITHO 2024, describing it as a testament to the resilience of stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality sector amidst security challenges.

L’Observateur Paalga reported that the 14th edition of SITHO concluded on December 1 in Ouagadougou. Special prizes were distributed in various categories, including best counter agent, best passenger vehicle dealer, best valet, best waiter, and best stand region, country, professional, and culinary art.
