Southern Africa: Vice-President Arrives in Mbabane for SADC Summit

The Vice President of the Republic, Manuel Vicente, arrived in Mbabane, capital of the Kingdom of Swaziland, to attend the 36th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which starts on Tuesday.

Manuel Vicente is at this summit representing the head of State, Jose Eduardo dos Santos.

In King Mswati III International Airport, the vice president was received by the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Georges Chikoti, Planning, Job Graca, and of Agriculture, Afonso Pedro Kanga, as well as by Ambassador Brito Sozinho.

The event under topic "Resource Mobilization for Investment in Sustainable Energy Infrastructure with a view to an Inclusive Industrialization and Prosperous Region", will take place at the Grand Hall of Lozita, 32 kilometers from Mbabane.

However, it was preceded by the meeting of the Standing Committee of Senior Officials and the Council of Ministers of this regional organization that prepared the whole dossier to be submitted to the summit.

Constituted by the Heads of State or Government of all member states, the summit is the supreme institution of SADC policymaking.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georges Chikoti, revealed that the heads of state will look at the issue of regional integration, economic and social situation of the region, food security and mainly on contributions from member states, which at this point covers only 60 percent.
