Tension Brews in Atebubu/Amantin Over Alleged Dismissal of Dce Pick Awards @ Amvca 2016

By Michael Boateng

Atebubu - There is raging tension in the Atebubu/Amantin district of the Brong-Ahafo region over an alleged dismissal of the DCE, Sampson Owusu Boateng. Rumors going round the district indicate that Owusu Boateng has been replaced by one Eric Osei as the DCE.

A situation that has created uneasiness for majority of the people in the district, including the Atebubu Traditional Council and some members of the NDC, as well as members of the Atebubu Youth Association.

It would be recalled that Sampson Owusu Boateng was forced to drop his ambition to contest with the incumbent MP, Sanja Nanja, by the NDC executives in the party's parliamentary primary, which created pandemonium as supporters of the two contestants clashed, but for the timely intervention of the police it would have been bloody.

Some members of the National Executive Committee of the NDC were tasked to ensure peaceful resolution of the situation to ensure victory in this year's elections. The alleged dismissal of Owusu Boateng has been all over on social media recently, which some concerned party members have predicted doom for the party if the alleged dismissal turns out to be true.

They indicated that the dismissal of the DCE would cause the NDC to lose the upcoming election since Mr. Owusu Boateng has a lot to prove in terms of development projects as an enviable legacy to campaign on. According to the NDC Party members, some selected few who are only interested in their selfish interest at the expense of the masses and that of the party are those yearning for the dismissal of the DCE.

Meanwhile, the Traditional Council has expressed concern over the way DCEs are always imposed on them. In a statement issued by the Atebubu Traditional Council led by the Paramount Chief, Nana Owusu Acheaw Brempong, they said they have noted the tension and possible clash that is likely to occur following the alleged suspension of the DCE, Sampson Owusu Boateng and wishes to bring the situation into public notice.

According to the Atebubu Traditional Council, there have been uneasy calm since November 11, 2015, and all attempts by individual or group of individuals to quell the tension proved futile. The Traditional Council further indicated that the situation has further been heightened following the recent social media report that the DCE who was treated unfairly during the NDC Parliamentary Primaries is alleged to have been replaced whilst still in office.

They disclosed that their decision was reached as a result of the NDC's inability to resolve the issue even when the Omanhene of Atebubu Traditional Council and his entourage visited the party's National Headquarters to draw their attention to the growing tension and possible clash but only to be embarrassed and humiliated by the General Secretary , Johnson Asiedu Nketia and their cohorts.

In the said statement, the Atebubu Traditional Council has urged the NDC and its government to, as a matter of urgency, rescind all the alleged purported reports and come out clear on it immediately in order to avert any possible clash
