Nando: The conference room of the Nando Regional Council served as the setting for the official installation of Adama Jean-Yves B©r© as the region’s new governor. The ceremony, presided over by the Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Smile Zerbo, brought together the constituent bodies as well as many prominent figures from the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister Zerbo began his address by paying tribute to the memory of Colonel Nestor Ou©draogo, who was appointed Governor of Nando in December 2024 but passed away shortly thereafter. A minute of silence was observed in his honor, highlighting both the importance and the fragility of the responsibilities associated with such positions. The Minister also expressed his gratitude for the warm reception extended to his delegation in the “City of the Red Rider.”
The chairman of the ceremony congratulated all the governors who preceded Mr. B©r©, acknowledging their dedication and contribution to the administrative, social, and security affairs of the region. He emphasized the significance of their efforts in managing challenges and promoting the socio-economic development of Nando.
Addressing the new governor directly, the minister outlined the expectations placed on him by Captain Ibrahim Traor©, President of Faso. Adama Jean-Yves B©r©, a civil administrator by training and with extensive experience, inherits a region with significant potential and will need to align his actions with the action plan for stabilization and development. His primary objective will be to create an environment conducive to economic development and the well-being of citizens.
Minister Zerbo then detailed the essential missions of the governor, as defined by the decree of September 14, 2016, on the administrative organization of the territory. As the repository of State authority, Mr. B©r©’s duties will include representing the State throughout the regional territory, ensuring the implementation of State policies in economic matters, planning and regional development, coordinating the activities of decentralized State services and public establishments in the region, ensuring respect for freedoms and public order, and ensuring the security of people, property, and institutions.
He will also coordinate civil defense operations and measures, excluding defense secrets. In addition to these duties, he will promote a culture of excellence and the efficiency of public service. Furthermore, given Nando’s border position with Ghana, Governor B©r© will have the crucial mission of strengthening good neighborly relations and cross-border administrative cooperation.
In his speech, the new governor, Adama Jean-Yves B©r©, expressed his gratitude to the highest authorities for the trust placed in him, as well as to his predecessors for the work accomplished. He pledged to give his best to contribute, modestly but resolutely, to the development of the Nando region.
Closing the ceremony, Minister Zerbo issued an appeal to all the region’s vital forces-administrative authorities, heads of decentralized services, project managers, traditional and religious leaders, as well as the entire population-to commit themselves unwaveringly to the new governor. He emphasized that the governor’s missions are synonymous with immense responsibilities, which cannot be assumed without the unwavering support of the community.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s continued support for Mr. B©r©, before concluding with wishes of success and blessings for the Nando region and the whole of Burkina Faso.
For the record, Mr. B©r© has been acting as interim governor since the beginning of 2025.
