Banwa: The High Commissioner of the Banwa province, Sanfinal Joseph Sirima, visited a 20-hectare cornfield in a resettled village located 6 km from Solenzo. The visit took place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, highlighting the agricultural progress in the area.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner, joined by a delegation and a team from the agriculture department, toured the cornfield owned by a prominent producer in the Dissankuy bush, a village that was resettled earlier this year on January 24. The producer, Karim Dem, has successfully developed a 50-hectare plot, dedicating 20 hectares specifically to corn, with an anticipated yield of 50 tonnes.
Karim Dem revealed that the 50 tonnes of corn are earmarked for sale to the National Company for the Management of Food Security Stocks (SONAGESS), with the remainder set aside for local consumption. This initiative not only promises economic benefits but also enhances food security in the region.
The head of Dissankuy, Dibiko Coulibaly, expressed his satisfaction with the visit from the authorities, seeing it as a positive step following the village’s resettlement. The High Commissioner’s visit extended to the developed lowlands of Verosuy and Avionso, where he engaged in traditional harvesting activities.
The agricultural output in these lowlands is projected to be significant, with Verosuy expecting a rice production of 262.5 tonnes and Avionso estimating a harvest of 122.5 tonnes. These developments underscore the region’s commitment to boosting agricultural productivity and fostering sustainable growth.
