Bazega: The water police service of the Nazinon region conducted a significant field monitoring and observation mission in Bazega province as part of enforcing water resources management legislation. The operation resulted in the arrest of offenders and the seizure of unauthorized equipment.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Nazinon region’s water and environmental police department organized a patrol mission targeting key sites in Bazega province. The mission visited the Nacombogo dam in the commune of Ipelce and the Ouidi pre-packaged water production unit in the commune of Kombissiri to ensure compliance with water management regulations.
Moumouni Ilboudo, head of the Nazinon water and environment police service, stated that the mission’s goal was to verify adherence to regulations by the pre-packaged water production unit and farmers utilizing the dam’s banks. The control mission included members from the national police, gendarmerie, and regional and provincial services overseeing water, environment, and agriculture in Nazinon and Bazega. It was led by Boureima Sawadogo, Deputy Public Prosecutor of Faso at the Ouaga 2 High Court, who serves as the focal point for water and environmental policing in the Ouaga 2 Public Prosecutor’s Office.
During the inspection at the Nacombogo dam, the mission observed significant compliance among farmers, who had cleared large parts of the banks following previous awareness and enforcement efforts by the water and environmental police. However, several offenders were apprehended, and authorities seized poorly installed motor pumps and gas cylinders used for siphoning water from the dam.
Boureima Sawadogo indicated that the offenders would undergo a procedure that would lead to appropriate sanctions. Meanwhile, the inspection at the pre-packaged water production unit in the village of Ouidi in Kombissiri was hindered by the absence of the facility’s manager and employees, as well as the unit’s closed doors.
Due to the inability to complete the inspection at the water production site, the water and environment police service has issued a summons to the head of the unit. The manager must appear in Manga, the regional capital, with all necessary documentation related to the water’s quality for a formal hearing.
The water police service in the Nazinon region is coordinated by the Nazinon regional water directorate.
