Ouagadougou: As part of the ‘Pink October’ month, the mobile clinic of the Bogodogo University Hospital (CHU-B) visited the Manegre-Nooma Association for the Protection of Orphans (AMPO) dispensary in Ouagadougou to provide free screenings for breast cancer and precancerous lesions of the cervix. This initiative aims to effectively combat these diseases in Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the free screening event, held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, is a collaborative effort between CHU-B and the AMPO dispensary managers. This initiative seeks to improve the prevention and early detection of women’s cancers, thereby contributing to the well-being of women.
“The Bogodogo hospital’s mobile clinic has planned several outings during this month of Pink October to meet our mothers, sisters, and daughters, in order to offer them free screening,” explained Claire Zigani Belemkoabga, supervisor of the gynecology care unit at CHU-B. Belemkoabga, who is also a midwife, mentioned that the clinic offers various activities, including breast cancer screenings, screenings for precancerous lesions of the cervix, ultrasounds, and mammographies for women over 40, along with awareness sessions on breast self-examination.
She noted the strong turnout of women as an encouraging indicator of their awareness of the importance of women’s health. “We are very satisfied, because we have not detected any suspected cases so far,” she added. In the event of an anomaly being detected, she assured that the patient is immediately attended to by the on-site medical team.
CHU-B has plans for additional free screening operations at various health facilities across Ouagadougou, including the Medical Centers (CM) of Koubri and Saaba, the Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS) of Saaba, and the Urban Medical Center (CMU) of sector 15, among others.
As a reminder, the month of “Pink October” is observed from October 1 to 31, 2025, throughout the national territory.
