Ouagadougou: Some 744,000 Burkinabè displaced by terrorist attacks have returned home or resettled in safer areas, AIB learned Friday from the ministry in charge of Foresight.
‘As of June 30, 2024, the actions to reconquer the national territory have enabled the gradual return of 774,002 people from 122,123 households,’ reported the communications services of the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Development. ‘This return, although salutary and encouraging, calls out to us the major challenges that remain in terms of humanitarian response, particularly with regard to support measures including housing,’ declared Minister Somé at the launch of the construction of 1000 housing for internally displaced people in Nagréongo, 40 km east of Ouagadougou.
By the end of November 2023, more than 340,000 IDPs had been able to return to areas cleared of terrorists, according to the government.
