Burkina Faso Triumphs Over Sierra Leone in FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers

Monrovia: The Stallions of Burkina Faso secured a victory against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, winning 1-0 in a Group A match at the Samuel Doe Stadium. This match was part of the 9th day of qualifiers for the FIFA 2026 World Cup.



According to Burkina Information Agency, Burkina Faso’s Mohamed Zoungrana scored the decisive goal with a header 43 minutes before halftime. The team successfully held onto their lead, managing to fend off multiple attacks from Sierra Leone during the last 10 minutes of the game.



Elsewhere in Group A, Egypt claimed a 3-0 victory over Djibouti, maintaining their top position and securing their spot in the upcoming World Cup. Burkina Faso aims to be among the top four second-placed teams to qualify for the play-offs, with a crucial match against Ethiopia on Sunday at the 4th of August Stadium.



The current standings in Group A are as follows: Egypt leads with 23 points and a goal difference of +17, followed by Burkina Faso with 18 points and a +13 goal difference. Sierra Leone is third with 12 points, while Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia, and Djibouti trail in the standings with 10, 9, and 1 point respectively.
