Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Bureau of Strategic Analysis, unveiled a memorandum titled “Burkina Faso: Beyond Stereotypes, a Dynamic Towards Security and Development” on Friday. The initiative aims to dismantle stereotypes and project a positive image of Burkina Faso on the global stage.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the memorandum, consisting of 86 pages, seeks to align internal information with the narratives shared internationally. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traore, emphasized the importance of this document during its presentation in Ouagadougou. He highlighted that since Captain Ibrahim Traore’s ascension to the presidency on October 30, 2022, Burkina Faso has embarked on significant projects that are central to its mission.
Minister Traore outlined the country’s priorities, including the restoration of national sovereignty, combating terrorism to regain territorial integrity, fostering endogenous development, and diversifying partnerships to elevate Burkina Faso’s international standing. He acknowledged the challenges posed by enduring stereotypes that impede national sovereignty efforts.
The memorandum is a strategic effort initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address and rectify negative perceptions of Burkina Faso abroad. Mr. Traore stressed the vital role of diplomats in enhancing the country’s global influence and reputation.
The initiative involves identifying and responding to negative narratives, providing a cohesive framework for diplomatic and consular missions to advance Burkina Faso’s image. Traore underscored the significant challenge of countering negative portrayals in what he described as a “century of communication war.”
The Minister concluded by highlighting the impactful work led by President Captain Ibrahim Traore and expressed the need for these achievements to gain greater international recognition.
