Ouagadougou: The National Universal Health Insurance Fund (CNAMU) organized a registration day on Monday for 400 new workers in the second wave of recruitment under the Faso Mebo presidential initiative. “We came today to the Philippe Zinda Kabore high school to enroll workers for the Faso Mebo presidential initiative,” said CNAMU registration officer Wendkouni Theophile Compaore.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this enrollment day concerns 400 agents recruited as part of the second wave of the Faso Mebo initiative. Mr. Compaore was speaking on Monday at the headquarters of Faso Mebo, located within the Philippe Zinda Kabore high school in Ouagadougou, where workers had turned out in large numbers to register their jobs.

He further explained that this initiative is part of the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU), which aims to protect everyone living in Burkina Faso, as well as their families, against the risk of impoverishment due to illness or maternity. “In our country, illness is what prevents people from saving. Every time a family member falls ill, they have to spend money to treat them. Universal health insurance is therefore welcome for the people of Burkina Faso,” argued Wendkouni Theophile Compaore.

To be enrolled, according to the registration agent, it is necessary to present a Burkinabe National Identity Card (CNIB), an extract of birth certificate or a supplementary birth certificate judgment, in order to be included in the CNAMU database. Mr. Compaore specified that after this registration phase, the CNAMU issues a registration certificate, thus marking membership in the scheme. He expressed satisfaction with the strong mobilization of Faso Mebo workers, whom he congratulated for the interest shown in their health and that of their families.

Burkina Faso is resolutely committed to writing a new page in its history, focused on the affirmation of its sovereignty, socio-economic development and the quest for social justice for all. This vision of the authorities was reflected in the National Social Protection Strategy 2024-2028, the objective of which is to establish basic guarantees for all, through the implementation of social insurance mechanisms.

Through this health policy, the State undertakes to establish a compulsory health insurance scheme for the benefit of the entire population living on the national territory, without distinction of race, nationality, sex, origin or medical history. Created in 2018, the CNAMU is a public social security institution, responsible for managing the RAMU for the benefit of the Burkinabe population, with the exception of elements of the national armed forces and members of their families.
