Ouagadougou: In a significant gesture of remembrance, Burkinabe Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo paid tribute to the Senegalese riflemen by visiting the site of the Thiaroye massacre alongside his Senegalese and Nigerien counterparts, Ousmane Sonko and Ali Lamine Zeine. This visit aimed to honor the African riflemen who lost their lives to colonial forces.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Prime Minister’s visit took place on October 7, 2025, during his participation in the Invest In Senegal 2025 forum. On the sidelines of the forum, Prime Minister Ouedraogo engaged with the Burkinabe community residing in Senegal at the residence of the Burkina Faso ambassador in Dakar. The diaspora expressed support for the Burkinabe authorities, particularly acknowledging the progress made in combating terrorism. The Prime Minister emphasized the vital role of the diaspora in fostering a sovereign, prosperous, and unified Burkina Faso.
Further, the daily Le Pays highlighted a significant crackdown on financial crimes in Ouagadougou. Authorities seized over 60 tons of illegally imported fertilizer and dismantled two networks involved in tax fraud and money laundering. The Observer Paalga reported that one group involved in these activities attempted to evade tax obligations by creating a new company while preparing to liquidate the old one, accumulating tax debts of over 275,000,000 FCFA.
In sports news, the Burkinabe national football team, the Stallions, achieved a notable victory against the Sierra Leonean team, the Leones Stars. As part of the 2026 qualifiers, the Stallions played in Monrovia Leone, securing a win with a decisive header from Mohamed Zoungrana in the 42nd minute. SIDWAYA noted that this victory marked the first defeat for the Sierra Leoneans in the qualifiers, keeping Burkina Faso’s World Cup dreams alive.
