France: The opposition is calling for the departure of French President Emmanuel Macron following the resignation of Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, who set a record for shortest term as head of government. He becomes the seventh head of government since Emmanuel Macron’s presidency began in 2017, a new record.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Jean-Luc Melenchon, founder of the La France Insoumise (LFI) party, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “Following the resignation of Sebastien Lecornu, we are calling for immediate consideration of the motion tabled by 104 MPs for the dismissal of Emmanuel Macron.” His statement on X reflects the growing discontent among opposition leaders.

Mathilde Panot, president of the LFI group in the National Assembly, expressed similar sentiments, noting the rapid turnover of prime ministers. “Lecornu resigns. Three prime ministers defeated in less than a year. The countdown has begun. Macron must go,” she declared on her X account, highlighting the political instability under Macron’s leadership.

Other members of the opposition have echoed these calls, demanding not only the resignation of the government but also the dissolution of parliament. The controversy stems from the composition of Lecornu’s government, where 13 out of 18 portfolios were assigned to members of the previous administration, prompting widespread criticism.

The resignation of Sebastien Lecornu has intensified the political crisis, with opposition leaders seizing the opportunity to challenge Macron’s presidency and demand significant political change in France.
