Goulmou: As part of the monitoring of the 2025-2026 wet agro-pastoral campaign, the Minister of State, Minister in charge of Agriculture, Commander Ismael Sombi, paid a visit to the Goulmou region this Tuesday, September 23, 2025. He encouraged producers to strengthen food self-sufficiency.
According to Burkina Information Agency, during his visit to Fada N’Gourma, Commander Ismael Sombi inspected a poultry farm capable of housing 3,000 chickens. Currently, the farm supports 1,000 laying hens in production and 650 one-month-old chicks. The regional director in charge of Agriculture in Goulmou, Bassirou Mand, highlighted the farm’s access to technical support, advice, health monitoring, and poultry feed assistance.
The minister proceeded to Tibga, where he visited a 40-hectare developed lowland, with 35 hectares dedicated to rice cultivation. This site involves 284 producers, over 82% of whom are women, with an anticipated production of 125 tonnes of rice by the campaign’s end. Mr. Mand noted that the producers received inputs, seeds, and technical monitoring throughout the season.
Commander Ismael Sombi expressed satisfaction with the producers’ and technicians’ achievements, urging the technical services to enhance the poultry sector’s revitalization in the region. He emphasized the need for Goulmou to reduce dependency on external sources for eggs and chickens, calling for increased professionalism and empowerment among producers.
The Minister of State also encouraged rural stakeholders to create employment opportunities for young people, aiming to protect them from terrorism and to work towards food self-sufficiency, aligning with Captain Ibrahim Traor’s vision. On behalf of the Tibga producers, Mariam Sana conveyed gratitude to the government, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) for enabling them to remain productive on their land. She requested the minister to relay their blessings and thanks to President Ibrahim Traor.
