Ouagadougou: 15 Burkinabe students, beneficiaries of scholarships offered by the Islamic Republic of Iran, made a commitment, before their departure, to return to Burkina Faso at the end of their training to contribute to the country’s development.
According to Burkina Information Agency, after a first wave of nine students left on Sunday, a second wave of six scholarship recipients left Ouagadougou on Tuesday, October 6, 2025, for Tehran. These students will pursue studies in various fields such as mining engineering, civil engineering, pharmaceutical industry, agriculture, and sports science.
“I am going to study in Iran to return to serve my country. I promise to contribute to the construction of Burkina Faso, because it is thanks to our country that we received this scholarship,” said scholarship recipient Ibrahim Doro.
For his colleague, Allassane Sabien Ouattara, this scholarship represents “a great opportunity” for Burkinabe youth. He expressed his gratitude to the Iranian embassy and the authorities of both countries, before adding: “Given the current dynamics of the country, we look forward to returning to contribute to its development.”
Rafat Panah Mohammadreza, Counselor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Burkina Faso, welcomed the “excellent relations between the two countries,” emphasizing that they cover various areas such as security, health, education, agriculture, and mining.
According to him, the choice of fields – particularly mining, agriculture, and pharmacology – meets Burkina Faso’s priority needs. He specified that this initiative aims to “support the country by training students who will return to serve their homeland.”
“The ambassador welcomes the quality of cooperation between the two countries and is working towards the upcoming awarding of new scholarships,” he said.
The parents of the beneficiaries also welcomed the initiative. “I am happy that my daughter received a scholarship to study sports science in Iran. We thank the Burkinabe and Iranian authorities for this wonderful opportunity,” said Odette Nama, mother of a scholarship recipient, urging her daughter to “be serious, acquire knowledge, and return to serve the country.”
Cooperation between Burkina Faso and the Islamic Republic of Iran has strengthened since the arrival in power of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, through a revitalization of diplomatic, economic, and academic relations.
