Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo inaugurated the renovated Central University Library (BUC) of Joseph Ki-Zerbo University on Friday, increasing its capacity from 300 to 600, with the possibility of expanding to 1,000.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the inauguration was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the Minister of Higher Education, Professor Adjima Thiombiano, and the World Bank Resident Representative, Hamoud Abdel Wedoud Kamil, who sponsored the event. Completely rehabilitated thanks to financial support from the World Bank as part of the Higher Education Support Project (PAES), the library’s capacity has doubled, increasing from 300 to 600 places, with the possibility of expanding to 1,000.
Users will now have new, comfortable study spaces, an expanded library collection, modern digital equipment, and enhanced security. In his speech, the Prime Minister hailed this achievement as a strong symbol of the government’s commitment to education and innovation. “Knowledge is a powerful weapon, and the library is the ideal place to sharpen it. Make good use of it to forge the critical and enlightened minds needed to build a resilient and prosperous Burkina Faso,” he urged.
The President of Joseph Ki-Zerbo University, Professor Jean-Fran§ois Silas Kobian©, also expressed his gratitude to the authorities and partners for the completion of this structuring project. He recalled that the library, initially inaugurated in the 1980s, constitutes a leading intellectual and scientific heritage, now meeting the growing needs of the academic community.
This renovation is part of a dynamic of modernizing university infrastructure, in accordance with the vision of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, for quality higher education, inclusive and accessible to all.
