Nahouri Subcommittee Launches Efforts to Promote Ninkare Language

Nahouri: The High Commissioner of the province of Nahouri, Sie Aristide Mohamed Kam, launched the activities of the national subcommission of the Ninkare language in the commune of Zecco, in a ceremony attended by several guests.



According to Burkina Information Agency, Burkina Faso is rich in cultural and linguistic diversity, with each language carrying the history, values, wisdom, and identity of different communities. The ceremony marked the official launch of the activities of the national subcommission of the Ninkare language, which aims to promote and enhance the language to preserve its invaluable intangible heritage. The initiative seeks to transmit the richness of traditions and ancestral knowledge to children and contribute to national unity through respect and enhancement of local identities, as indicated by the president of the organizing committee, Baba Karfo.



The President of the Ninkare language subcommittee, Rongo Bakieka, emphasized that the ceremony is a call to make Ninkare a language spoken in homes and an instrument of education, research, and social cohesion. The High Commissioner, Sie Aristide Mohamed Kam, representing the Minister in charge of Basic Education, highlighted that this activity’s launch would allow the Ninkare language to feel more involved in Burkina’s quest for sovereignty and development. He encouraged the population, especially the youth, to integrate the Ninkare language into their creations, innovations, and exchanges, asserting that their involvement is key to the language’s full development and modernization.



The launch activities were sponsored by the Director General of Non-Formal Education, Jean No«l Ouedan Tagnabou. The ceremony was graced by a large delegation of traditional chiefs from Ghana, supporting the Nankana people of Burkina Faso, who share the same language. Traditional authorities blessed the day before the ceremony, and the hymn of victory of the fighting forces over the forces of evil was sung in Ninkare. Organizers presented certificates of recognition to pioneers who laid the foundations for promoting the Ninkare language, spoken in the municipalities of Tiebele, Zecco, and Ziou.
