Ouagadougou: The Nigerien authorities have just started discussions with the Chadian authorities with a view to exporting its oil to the international market via the pipeline passing through Chad, the Agency reported this Thursday Nigerian press.

The Nigerien minister in charge of oil, Mahaman Moustapha Barké Bako and his counterpart from Chad, Ndolenodji Alixe Naïmbaye, launched preliminary discussions on the Niger-Chad-Cameroon pipeline project this afternoon in Niamey, according to the ANP.

This involves reaching an agreement to connect Niger’s Agadem oil site to the existing pipeline from Chad to Cameroon, to serve as an alternative to the pipeline passing through Benin.

‘This project of undeniable strategic importance embodies our collective commitment to sustainable economic development and cooperation between our two States,’ said Minister Barké Baké, quoted by the ANP.

The Chadian Minister of Oil stressed, for her part, that this project is in perfect coherence with regional policies on economic i
ntegration.

Following misunderstandings and confusion on the pipeline connecting the Sémè Kodji port to Benin, resulting in a trial and convictions of Nigerien citizens by the Beninese justice system, the Nigerien government raised on June 24, 2024 the possibility of transiting its crude by Chad.
