Ouagadougou: Niger’s national football team, Mena, secured a 3-1 victory against Congo’s Red Devils on Wednesday evening at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou. This match was part of the 9th day of the World Cup qualifiers in Group E, Africa zone.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Congolese team managed to hold Niger off during the first half, but their defense faltered as the match progressed. Anthony Sosah scored for Niger just before the break in the 45th minute plus stoppage time. The momentum continued in the second half with goals from Oumarou Youssouf in the 49th minute and Victorien Adebayor in the 67th minute. Congo managed to score in injury time through Deogracias Bassinga in the 90th minute plus stoppage time, but it was not enough to change the outcome.
In a post-match press conference, Niger Mena’s coach Badou Zaki and captain Victorien Adebayor expressed their gratitude to the Burkinabe fans who supported their team, contributing to their triumph on the field.
With this victory, Niger stands in second place in Group E with 12 points and a neutral goal difference. Morocco leads the group with 21 points and has already qualified. Tanzania holds third place with 10 points, followed by Zambia with 9 points, while Eritrea remains at the bottom with no points.
