Ziro (nando): The High Commissioner of Ziro Province, Saba Zorom©, has officially launched a free distribution campaign for Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Mosquito Nets (LLINs) at Sapouy B School. This campaign is part of the efforts to combat malaria in the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, malaria continues to be a leading cause of illness and death in Burkina Faso, especially during the rainy season. In response, the Burkinabe government, alongside technical and financial partners, has initiated a national campaign to distribute LLINs. In Ziro province alone, around 178,000 mosquito nets will be distributed to serve an estimated population of 340,000.
During the launch, the High Commissioner emphasized the importance of the campaign in preventing malaria and urged households to utilize the mosquito nets effectively. The campaign, scheduled from July 15-20, 2025, encompasses the entire province, with support from community health workers and Village Development Committees. A logistical framework is set to ensure efficient distribution in line with health authority guidelines.
Beneficiaries are selected through a coupon system to ensure fair distribution. Additionally, field teams are providing education on the proper use and maintenance of the mosquito nets. Administrative authorities, health workers, community leaders, and technical partners are collaborating to ensure the campaign’s success, as noted by the chief medical officer of the Sapouy health district, Dr. Cheikh Omar Sanogo. He stressed the importance of LLINs, especially for pregnant women and children, in reducing severe malaria cases.
This distribution campaign is aligned with the national public health strategy focusing on prevention, demonstrating the government and partners’ commitment to improving public health. Success hinges on the households’ adoption of the mosquito nets, and authorities are urging citizens to prioritize the fight against malaria daily.
