Lubango: Seven of the 22 deceased from Wednesday’s accident on Serra da Leba road have been identified by their families, ANGOP has learned. They include six individuals from Huila and one from Namibe. The families are now making funeral arrangements while other victims are subject to a more rigorous identification process, which involves forensic analysis as requested by their relatives.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the identification of the victims commenced on Thursday at the Lubango Central Hospital morgue, following the completion of the rescue operations on the Serra da Leba cliff. The condition of those injured in the accident remains stable. The director of the emergency department at Lubango Central Hospital, Aur©lio Mona Joaquim, confirmed that in the past 24 hours, the 12 patients who remain hospitalized have not experienced any complications and are in a stable clinical condition.
Seven of the injured required surgical intervention, while the other five, initially under observation in the emergency room, have now been moved to regular hospital rooms. The injuries sustained include traumatic amputations, fractures of the tibia and femur, and closed abdominal injuries, mainly lacerations. The current focus remains on monitoring the progress of these patients, with the situation reportedly under control at present.
