Tougan: The District Chief Medical Officer of Tougan, Dr. J©r´me Nikiema, spearheaded an advocacy meeting on Saturday, July 19, 2025, with various community representatives to ensure the success of the upcoming seasonal malaria chemoprevention campaign scheduled to commence on July 24 throughout Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Nikiema engaged with customary and religious leaders, association heads, local media, and community-based health workers to advocate for robust community involvement in the malaria prevention campaign. This initiative is part of broader efforts to mitigate malaria’s impact during the high transmission season in the region.
Dr. Nikiema emphasized the importance of this meeting as part of the preparatory activities leading up to the campaign’s launch. He noted a strategic shift in this year’s approach, stating that only the first dose of the malaria prevention treatment will be supervised, unlike previous years when all three doses were supervised. This change necessitates heightened community mobilization and awareness to ensure children receive all necessary doses.
He called upon the entire population to actively participate and support the campaign, underscoring its critical role in combating malaria effectively across Burkina Faso.
