Goulmu: The Yii-Bisnan Association (AYB) distributed school kits to approximately fifty orphaned and vulnerable children, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), during a ceremony held on Saturday. The event was attended by Baowindsida Bingo, the Secretary General of the province, along with various educational authorities and distinguished personalities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the donation aligns with the 2025-2026 school year and consists of complete school kits, food, and soap, valued at over one million five hundred thousand CFA francs. Issaka Ouedraogo, the president of the association, emphasized that the initiative reflects the organization’s commitment to “Defend and promote the rights and interests of children.” He acknowledged the support from partners and individuals who are attuned to the needs of children.
Ouedraogo highlighted that the association, founded in April 2024, emerged due to the national context which gave rise to many vulnerable children. AYB has previously implemented various initiatives, including training in soap making for parents or guardians, organizing recreational outings to tourist sites, and distributing food donations.
The initiative was well-received by those in attendance, including the provincial director of preschool, primary and non-formal education of Sissili, Soungalo Traore, and Dr. Hyacinthe Ouedraogo, spokesperson for the sponsors. His Majesty Lio-Pio Dan-Zwe praised the association’s efforts and commended Issaka Ouedraogo, affectionately nicknamed Yago Issaka, for his successful integration into the Leo community and his solidarity towards vulnerable children. The customary authority emphasized that “An orphan is first the responsibility of the chief before the population supports him.”
Each beneficiary received a school kit, a 25kg bag of rice, a 3-litre can of oil, and soap. The event was enlivened by performances from Leo’s Nemaro Orchestra and artists Fadeen and Keyt from Ouagadougou. The ceremony concluded with a visit to the association’s newly inaugurated headquarters.
