Zondoma: As part of the 2nd phase of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation (JEPPC), a public conference on the theme “Road Safety and Collective Responsibility” was organized by the provincial authorities this Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Gourcy town hall.
According to Burkina Information Agency, statistical data cited by the National Police indicates that more than 21,113 traffic accidents are recorded each year, resulting in approximately 13,078 injuries and 883 deaths. Many of these incidents involve young people and two-wheeled vehicles. In response, the provincial authorities of Zondoma initiated a road safety awareness day, which was particularly well attended by students from the commune of Gourcy.
This activity, part of the implementation of the second phase of the JEPPC, was chaired by the High Commissioner of the Zondoma province, Aboubacar Sidiki Nabe. “We wanted the students to be present because they are the most concerned by this issue of road safety,” said the High Commissioner, encouraging active participation in the discussions.
The Gourcy Central Police Commissioner Aristide Ignace Sorgho presented the road safety communication. He emphasized that road safety requires everyone to be aware of their role and to commit to it over the long term. He urged road users to maintain “order and discipline” on the roads by strictly adhering to the highway code to reduce accidents.
Following this, a presentation on presidential initiatives was delivered by the mission officer at the Presidency of Faso on behalf of the Yaadga Region, Mamadou Marcel Sawadogo. His communication focused on aspects of community development, education, agriculture, Faso Mebo, and APEC. The next stage of activities is planned for October 15, 2025, with a sanitation day at the urban health center (CSPS) of Gourcy.
