Withdrawal of AES States from ECOWAS: Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré gives exact and official information to ambassadors


Ouagadougou: The Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré spoke on Tuesday in Ouagadougou, with the heads of diplomatic missions and consular posts accredited to Burkina Faso, to give them exact and official information on the withdrawal of Burkina Faso and other ECOWAS AES countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, accompanied by the Minister Delegate, Estella Eldine Kabré/Kaboré met on Tuesday February 27, 2024 in Ouagadougou, the heads of diplomatic missions and Consular posts accredited in Burkina Faso.

The head of Burkinabe diplomacy wanted this framework for exchanges with ambassadors to give them exact and official information on the withdrawal of Burkina Faso and the other countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) from the Economic Community West African States (ECOWAS).

He affirmed that ‘where there is no communication and dialogue, various interpretations always arise’ hence the framework being
maintained to allow diplomats ‘to have the official discourse’.

The diplomatic corps welcomed the initiative of the head of Burkinabe diplomacy, for having perpetuated this tradition of communication between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the heads of diplomatic missions and consular posts accredited to Burkina Faso.

‘We were present at this meeting, and we will seize this opportunity to ask current questions, and have a clear vision of the latest developments experienced in the sub-region,’ suggested the dean of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Burkina Faso Youssef Slaoui, also ambassador of Morocco.

As a reminder, it was on January 28, 2024 that Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger announced their withdrawal from ECOWAS.
